A Glass Teacup for Sorapot

As you can see in the Sorapot video, glass tumblers are my favorite teacups. The contrast between the smooth glass and the fragrant, amber tea may not make the brew taste better, but it definitely heightens the experience for me. I designed this teacup to emphasize the the beauty of tea on glass while insulating your hand and tabletop from heat:

The cup is clearly designed to complement Sorapot’s modern lines and glass brewing chamber. But unlike the Sorapot, there’s no stainless steel: just a deeply grooved, minimalist flange for a handle which flows smoothly below the cup to form a raised base.

[...] Joey Roth’s Sorapot has come a long way, and after years of waiting we can finally all get our hands on one in 2008! In fact, Joey Roth is officially the *first* reader from NOTCOT i ever met in person ~ we met about 2.5 years ago when i was in NY doing our NOTed photoshoot, and he’s been a great friend and supporter to NOTCOT since! Well, you should be caught up on all your Sorapot news by now, and if not check out the video of it in action after the jump, but what this post is really about is the gorgeous new teacup design to match it! So why this design? Joey says “I designed this teacup to emphasize the the beauty of tea on glass while insulating your hand and tabletop from heat.” I must admit my favorite part was the base… at first it looked like a mercedes logo ~ perhaps a cute idea for a future mug is a peace sign base that leaves peace sign water marks when left on paper… See more close ups of his new Teacup below! [...] A Glass Teacup for Sorapot. Joey Roth is at it again creating a complimentary glass teacup for his upcoming Sorapot. Not only beautiful, but functional – it protects your hands and tabletop from heat with its tripod base and sleek handle. I love the smooth transition between the two parts.:: via NOTCOTLabels: grand design, home sweet home [...]

Hi,again, Happy to learn of your successful launch of
Sorapot. The glass teacup is an unusual design and fits in with the Sorapot. I would like to check out the handle to see if I can grip it easily and comfortably. Have good show and keep up the good work. GP .

i like the design. the base and handle break from the conventional rotational symmetry of most glassware. however, i’d rethink the detail in the handle. presuming these would be press-molded. that would require a three part mold. more complexity, plus unsightly parting lines

    Hi Joey,

Will this ever go into production (very interested in 2 of them)? I love the design :) Also I really like my sorapot. The design is great, but it’s also really functional.

    Regards,

    Alex
